SALESFORCE INTROS PROGRAMMING MODEL Featured

Mike Rosenbaum, SalesforceSalesforce has introduced Lightning Web Components, a programming model to enable JavaScript developers to code on the Lightning Platform. LWC succeeds the current programming model, Aura Components, built by Salesforce in 2015.

The model is described providing reusable building blocks for creating Lightning apps and experiences. “With Lightning Web Components, we are giving developers a standards-driven JavaScript model for building enterprise apps on Lightning,”  Mike Rosenbaum, EVP of product for Salesforce, said in a prepared statement. Components supports ES6+ so that developers can use modern JavaScript features like classes, modules and imports. Salesforce said the system also provides faster component performance because more code is executed natively by the browser instead of JavaScript abstractions. Components can run side-by-side with Aura. Other developer services include Lightning Data Service, which gives developers access to their Salesforce data and metadata in JavaScript; Lightning Locker, which provides security around JavaScript code; and the Base Lightning Components, a library of more than 70 building blocks for app development.
