AVALARA HIRES CIO

Tom Parker, Avalara Avalara has hired a Microsoft veteran as its chief information officer. Tom Parker joined the Bainbridge Island, Wash.-based sales-and-use-tax vendor after working as director for application security at Microsoft where he was responsible for overall risk management of Microsoft’s IT application portfolio. 

He held that job from May 2011 until taking the Avalara job this month. Before that he was director and architect for Application Platform at Microsoft from February 2008 through May 2011 and he was strategic security advisor there from July 2004 through February 2008.
