Microsoft started off fiscal 2012 on a strong note with the performance of its Dynamics lines. The company said Dynamics sales for the first quarter ended September 30 were 17 percent higher than a year earlier.

However, that's as much as we learn since Microsoft does not report Dynamics revenue figures or breakout sales for CRM or the four financial software products. Dynamics is part of the Microsoft Business Division whose operating income hit $3.7 billion for the most recently ended quarter, a 6 percent rise from $3.5 billion a year earlier. Revenue for the first quarter was $5.6 billion, an increase of 8 percent from $5.2 billion. The divisIon's increase in revenue stemmed primarily from sales of Office 2010.
