RETAIL PRO SEES IPAD IMPACT

Retail Pro logoThe adoption of the iPad to replace cash registers and as in-store merchandising devices by major chains was discussed in last week’s issue.

The question of the impact of iPads was passed on to Intuit, which issued a statement that it was producing little impact on the small businesses that use that company’s point-of-sale system. Retail Pro saw it differently.  Kevin Connor, director of product management, said that “The iPad has all but made it mandatory to consider a touch-based user interface in all aspects of our software development, something that was typically only directed at customer-facing applications previously.” Retail Pro says retailers are using iPads for a variety of purposes including cross selling, as “line-busters” and for personalized shopping assistant. Even though the use of the iPad as a POS device is “still raw”, it is having an impact. Retail Pro says its software line services businesses from very small to very large and that the iPad is having an impact along the entire range.
