RANDOM THOUGHTS: THE DEAD DEER

The dead deer lining North Jersey roads  have reached historic levels. In a 15-mile drive  recently on Route 287 (or I-287 as much of the country would say), I spotted at least 15 carcasses. I must admit I would have been lost without my Audubon Field Guide to American Road Kill. And there's all kinds of games you can play with kids on a trip, guess how long the bodies have been there, and how many cars it takes to smear one completely across the road and then there's the party games like "Pin the Tail on the Carcass".

... With Halloween coming out, I went shopping last week for tea candles. I must say that they don't provide much flavor no matter how long you leave them in hot water. ... Senatorial candidate Christine O'Donnell says she in the election because God told her to run, although he apparently failed to specify how far. ... While I was watching TV, I realized that the invective was higher than normal. I was hearing exchanges of "whore, crook, idiot, moron ... " I told my daughter it was amazing how vile the morning talk shows are. "Talk show?" she said, "that's the re-run of a Congressional debate from last night." Then I heard those four most feared words on TV "You are the father." I asked my daughter if John Edwards was on. ...  She added she was considering going to a Halloween party as Lindsay Lohan. "You're going to buy a costume." "No, all I have to do is get drunk and stoned and pass out in my car." ... Down here at the Gaylord National for a Thomson Reuters conference, I ran into a variety of other get togethers, including prosecutors, air traffic controllers and jewelers. I am going to suggest there might be a place in the market for tax software that can automatically arrest and prosecute taxpayers for filling in false information and fly them to prison.
