ParthenonLas Vegas bookmakers are taking bets as to which happens first, the U.S. government shuts down in a funding dispute or Greece is auctioned off.  “And what do I hear for the Parthenon? Think how this would look on your lot. A fixer upper that will make you the envy of your neighbors.” Who has the over-under on a U.S. default?
… I was somewhat confused by the TV show “The Chew”. I thought the ladies from “The View” had started devouring guests but it turned out it was just another cooking show. When I was a kid in Indiana there was another show called “The Chaw” involving tobacco. It was nowhere nearly as interesting and was pretty disgusting to boot. … I’ve always been confused by the sign for self-storage facilities. Why would I want to store myself? … There was a provocative headline this week about Pakistan transporting its nuclear weapons in everyday vans. It opens up a potentially great advertising campaign. “Dropping the big one. Ending civilization? Ryder has the trucks for you.” Hire a couple of friends to help you move, and you’re ready for business. … Former New Jersey governor Jon Corzine has hired a criminal lawyer as investigations intensify into the collapse of MF Global, the securities firm he has headed since he was booted out of office. Hardly newsworthy; New Jersey politicians under investigation is considered part of the job description in this state.
