RANDOM THOUGHTS: THE WORLD CUP

German World Cup PlayersThe end of this year's World Cup competition left many fans without emotional resources. Some were left staring at TVs and hiring someone to periodically yell “goooooooooal”. ... The score of the Germany-Brazil semi-final match caused a lot of confusion. When it reached 7-0, I was chatting with a friend on Facebook. “How’s the game?” he wrote. I responded,  “Pretty good; Germany is ahead by a touchdown.” I’m not really sure what the over/under was on the game …. And as the sports calendar progresses, we move from the World Cup, in which many countries around the world participate, to this fall’s World Series, in which athletes from  many of the United States play

….  The news media generally ignored a protest by some misguided trekkies who were upset that the Klingon team was not given the chance to qualify in the soccer event . … There is a dog show on “The View”, this morning. It’s filled with barking and yapping. And then there’s the noise the dogs are making.  … Ah, the cycle of life. Children grow up; leave move; get married; move back home; leave home, move back home. …. Just remember: one man’s sacred cow is another man’s hamburger. ... This week, a woman with a child in her car was arrested for driving drunk at McDonald’s. “Can I have a Big Mac?” she asked. Employees alertly responded, “Yes, maam.  And would you like a fries and a breathalyzer test with that?” … Someone with an apparent dislike for the content of our sister publication, The Progressive Accountant, emailed me  a color photo of good resolution of a hemorrhoids and surrounding areas. It reinforced my view that I don’t like selfies. I asked the sender if he got  his looks from his mother or father.
